DigInfo – movie.diginfo.tv Related Links www.sony.jp www.sony.jp Sony has developed a new technology that will pave the way for the commercialization of an organic electroluminescence (OEL or OLED) TV. The OEL display, used in the OEL TV, utilizes a materials that emits light when voltage is applied, and an organic materials is utilized for the illuminator. One of the characteristics of the OEL display is a high contrast ratio. Usually, liquid crystal displays and plasma displays have a contrast ratio of many thousands to one, but the OEL display has a contrast ratio as high as 1 million to one. The increased the contrast ratio, the far more vividly black is displayed. Called Laser Induced Pattern-wise Sublimation, or LIPS, the newest technology selectively emits 800-nanometer-wavelength laser beams on a donor substrate coated with a light emitting materials and placed on a glass substrate, and transfers the light emitting materials to needed components. This technologies can type patterns with out having to use a mask, so it can use low-molecular supplies to develop huge screens. Sony has already created a 27-inch OEL TV prototype. The company plans to ship inside the year an 11-inch OEL TV, which does not use the newest LIPS technology but the conventional technology. Sony has not disclosed data on the value and sales volumes.
