If OLED TV manufacturers can overcome the mass production “challenges” stated by Sony, the future of OLED TV looks very rosy indeed.
While it’s expected that mass production of OLED TV’s is at least 5 years in the future, Samsung and LG are gearing up for an early move into the OLED TV market by investing millions in the technology and setting up test lines to iron out the production quirks inherent in OLED displays currently. From a current market of 3 million units and $130 million in sales, the OLED industry is expected to grow to 70 million units and $2.5 billion in sales in the next 2 ye

Yes, Hancock sucked. I don't agree with anything else. Sony's OLED TV is breathtaking. And Sony was the *first* to do an eInk-based eBook device, so they are the pioneers in that area. They've done three generations of it, more than any other company.

OLEDS are certainly cool, but I really took issue with the “look how thin it is!!” marketing BS in my Audio/Video mag. Yeah, thin, unless you look at the HUGE base station underneath it. So, if it were oriented on the back of the panel, how exactly would it be thinner than an LCD?Not debating the superiority of the quality and contract, though. OLED is definitely the future. But more work needs to be done on creating thinner circuits for the drivers. If SONY just left off the *shell game* of “Look at how thin it is!” from their promo hype (hence inflated price driven purely by marketing) the world would be a slightly better place. It is an insulting marketing ploy. How thin would LCDs be if you moved all of it's electronics to a huge base station? My laptop screen is pretty darn thin, too.I predict the XEL-1 will flop because most people just aren't that stupid. Hopefully OLED TV technology survives it, though.
do not get samsung oled!!!
it loses color really really quickly and sometimes malfunctions… i thnk sony is better (they made the oled anyway)

I don't see anything weird about the fragrance they release in the store. If they know that women tend to buy more then you need to appeal to them as much as you can. I think I've been to 3 of these Sony Style stores and I haven't noticed any manufactured aroma.

Samsung starts new OLED line two months ahead of schedule –
Mitsubishi has shown off a new Diamond Vision OLED TV at CEATEC – and it’s a whopper at 155 inches. The company is touting it for outdoor use, helping to make advertising more visible and attractive. The 155-inch screen Mitsubishi is slightly different to Sony and Samsung’s OLED TV releases, in that the screen is made up from hundreds of OLEDs with a 3mm pitch as pixels. Beating LED Large LED screens work on the same principle, but OLEDs are able to create a higher overall resolution perception due to the way they’re arranged. But the main problems with OLEDs still exist in that the lifetime is only 20,000 hours, meaning around two and a half years of normal use. This may be fine for some advertisers, but the technology will have to improve for OLEDs to become the ubiquitous outdoor display technology. Or people could design collaboratively. If they build a touchscreen on both sides of the display, both people could look at the image simultaneously and work together to design.

they would definitely not snap lol, it's hard plastic
even if it did, the screen itself is that really hard impossible-to-rip plastic, or any plastic that you want since you just have to print it on lol
Eager to get your hands on a big-screen OLED TV? Then it looks like you may still have to wait a few more years — at least according to Paul Peng, the executive vice president of display manufacturer AU Optronics (otherwise known as AUO). While the technology has been getting cheaper and more efficient as of late, he says that the production costs are still too high and yield rates too low for large OLED TVs to be feasible for commercial use any time before 2014. Of course, we suppose that all depends on your definition of "feasible." Last we heard, LG was still planning on releasing a 55-inch OLED TV by mid-2012 — for a yet-to-be-disclosed price.
AUO VP says large OLED TVs won’t be feasible for commercial use until 2014 originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 28 Jul 2011 15:06:00 EDT. Please see our terms for use of feeds.
