OLED TV Update – April 2011

OLED TV is still a technology that is in the most part, unobtainable. Sony was the first out of the gate with the ground-breaking XEL-1 OLED TV. I had the good fortune to review that television and aside from the small size and large price (early adopters only!) I was very impressed.

LG introduced their 15″ 15EL9500 OLED TV last year but for various reasons never made it to the North American market.

Rumors abound about larger LG OLED TV models coming soon and Hisense offering a 15″ model. Time will tell how soon OLED TV tecnology is readily available as there are still huge production difficulties to overcome along with the sticker shock found with these TVs. Stay tuned for OLED TV updates.

OLED TV 2010 update

A quick update on the status of OLED TV so far in 2010:

The LG 15EL9500 OLED TV was released in Europe only, and never saw North America
The Sony XEL-1, the first OLED TV is no longer available and Sony has no firm plans to manufacture other OLED TVs.
Samsung is still showing various OLED concept TVs but has nothing available to consumers
The LG 31″ OLED TV is promised to us next spring (2011) at a cost that should deter most consumers

OLED TV at CES 2010

While 3D TV is getting a lot of attention in Las Vegas this week, there are new OLED TV models expected.

The rumours are that Sony may introduce an OLED TV larger than the XEL-1, perhaps a 27″ model.

Samsung has a 14″ OLED TV on display.

LG has a 15″ OLED on display and there’s talk of a much larger model coming soon.

Sony already introduced its XEL-1 OLED TV along long time ago, and before this device hitting the UK the updated model will be arrived in near future. Sony XEL-1 OLED TV – video demo of sample photos and music

The Sony XEL-1 OLED TV has a couple of sample photos and some fairly uninspiring tunes to give you an idea of what you can do with images and music on a Memory Stick plugged into the back of the XEL-1. The sound quality is pretty darn good and the images can’t possibly be reproduced accurately online.
