Can i ask you guys…The HDMI 1.3 upgrade to 1.4 will work as you say from the PS3, ..but! will the 3D compatable games hooked to a 3D ready projector really work on their current 1.3 ports? i mean with the DLP glasses bought with them also?
* Short version is it worth getting a ’3d ready projector yet?’ -primary use: PSĀ£ 3d content
Thanks if anyone has an answer to that unsolved mystery!

this is a great show. they really know wat they are talking about!
what’s a TV??
Won’t the RED ONE camera shoot in just a high resolution as Imax film??
are you kidding?
Suggestion for your HTPC build:
Research the new H55 platform and see if it will meet your needs. If not, go with whatever platform.
Graphics: Radeon HD 5000 series, could go with a 5750 to keep the cost down.
Sound: AuzenTech AZT-XFHTHD or ASUS Xonar. The AuzenTech has HDMI video passthrough so you could use any HDCP compliant graphics card/chip. It is also a universal soundcard, supporting traditional PC audio & headphones.
Of course, Bluray, large HDD, ATSC and Cablecard and a slick case.
theres 3d tv that you don’t need glasses but still….
i’m not getting a 3D Bravia anymore all i need is an already existing 3D monitor with HDMI 1.4(3D) and DVI converter then wait until PS3′s update…..
You’re a retard
just because it’s rendered in hd doesn’t mean the quality is any better, it just means it’s a bigger file size and CAN have better quality
i dont relly get it , why do i need a 3d tv?? if i stil need glasses??
Screw anything MAC
We would prefer to cancel all “Expanded Basic” content and use the cost to rent a 2d Digital / HD settop box. Also, it is apparent in the current market that “cord cutters” and informed cable TV subscribers have choices … Kill the contract with Viacom and rethink the entire cable structure. Why should we pay for several ESPN channels (they all use up 80 % of airtime with commercials and idle channels with talking heads). Tell Viacom to get lost, and give your loyal customers the best product at fair pricing!

Thank you for a simple to read and act upon article. There are so many articles on this topic and yet I liked the simplicity and the 'let's get it done' nature in your article.
I want to present to your readers a way to get their work on television watched by millions.
i2TV brings Internet videos to television without need for an additional settop box. Content can be uploaded to i2TV and within 24-48 hours you are a TV star. This can be short films, local high school games, art festivals, or something fun you decided to create. i2TV is on channel 1.8 in the San Francisco bay area, channel 702 on SureWest in Sacramento, channel 28.3 in Denver, and many other places. Go to http://www.i2tv.tv for a user portal or to http://www.i2tv.tv/partner/login if you are a regular content producer to get a share of ad revenues.
We are expanding to many more cities soon.
I have u-verse and I am going back to cable. The u-verse dvr is horrible. It does not record shows when it should and the guide data is always wrong. The hardrive is way to small. When they allow 2 Hd streams to a Tivo HD I might come back since the channel line up and picture quality are not bad. Do not get U-verse if you actually want the settop box's and the dvr to actually work because they don't and guess what they run microsoft software.

cool man. looks really good in hd!!!!!
what kind of remote can you get for the settop box? I ask because I want the set top box behind a concrete wall (out of sight), so if the remote is infrared and needs line of sight then it is a no-go I need it to be using radio freq. or smililar that will go thru walls.
the remote (like most) is IR – if you need to control the STB (not line of site) – then consider an IR extender – ie the PowerMID products etc

i`m actually watching you guys on my Sony Google TV
Joost in a CATV network is not as high-overhead as you'd think. True video on demand is high overhead, and you do not want to be doing that for the Daily Show. Deploying practical video on demand in an IP based CATV network is a different story.
I think the real significance of Joost's P2P strategy is for CATV deployments where everyone is using a settop box running their software. In this type of environment, you have 100-400 nodes that share a network segment. If each of these nodes is both a P2P relay and storage server, you can do some really interesting things without clogging the upstream network.
Assume each of these boxes has 500GB of disk or thereabouts in 2008 (and more each year), and the system is configured so each program is stored on at least 2 different boxes. This means you have about 25-100TB of shared storage on each network segment. That's enough for 25,000 to 100,000 hours of standard definition programming, and 2,500 to 10,000 of HD, depending on encoding format.
That's enough to cache the majority of the stuff that people are likely to want to watch using a brute force tactic. Add other smarts like syncing the set top boxes with Netflix and Blockbuster watchlists, and you can record even more stuff 24/7, available for local playback as needed.
The point here is that bandwidth is not the issue. It is storage. If every set top box is a P2P Tivo, more or less, then you can background record virtually everything within a local subnet, and know that there is a 99% chance you can copy it off your neighbors set top box.
So yes, Joost's P2P system is broken if its throttled by the CATV provider. But if Joost is in the cable box and CATV network itself, their system will work very well. As with Skype, I think they're ahead of everyone here, and have spotted something that went unnoticed by most.
Luca,
Not sure what you are referring to I didn't mention industrial vertical mobile apps.. personally i see vertical mobile apps as a big deal. To me the best opportunities are the ones not on the VCs radar.
I expect google to redefine the landscape with a andriod settop box tied to android phone code.. I'm watching google because they are moving down a good path to change the paradigm.

class=” ” no! Its very bad. We lost our tv, settop box n dvd player by thunder in 3 diff occations. Make ur electronic devices safe.
Hold on a minute! It's not really fair to compare over-engineered over-priced “mega cables” to BROKEN cables (EG. bent pins, bad solder joints, et cetera). In the lengths commonly used for an HDMI connection between a settop box and a DTV, any standard intact HDMI cable will work fine.
That's the whole point of using a digital connection: The HDMI connection is driven at a very high level by the settop box, and then well-terminated at the TV. (Like a million times stronger than the microvolt levels between a DTV over-the-air antenna and the tuner input.)The bit error rate over that 6 feet of shielded cable is almost unmeasurable with the finest lab equipment, unless you are running some sort of transmitting equipment right next to your TV. Even then, such noise is much more likely to enter through your TV's power cable than through the HDMI cable. Using thicker conductors, gold-plating the terminals, adding noise filters, etc. will not make any difference.
If you want to spend some money on equipment where it will make a terrific difference, buy a good antenna with an antenna-mounted preamp.
Google TV More Enticing after Set-Top Box Price Slash – PCWorld –
This year's event was very engaging. On the heels of the event, the MicroHoo news came out. Based on the 08 predictions that were discussed, this deal could expedite some of what was discussed, such as consumer apps on mobile that consumers actually understand and use, further developments in voice technology (Microsoft bought TELLME in 07) and maybe, just maybe Clayton will get his settop box via IMN. It will be fun to look back in 09 and compare notes. Thanks to Clayton and the EmberMedia staff for a great event.
